Honeymoon Part 1 | The Drive

For the first part of our honeymoon, we drove through the mountains and fall leaves for five days, stopping in various cities about the Eastern US.  We would eventually arrive in Bayonne, NJ, where a cruise ship would take us all the way to Canada.

The first night we stopped and worshipped at Red Mountain Church in Birmingham, AL.  The people at Red Mountain have written many of the tunes I (Dave) lead our church in, and I was very happy to have a chance to worship with them.  Thier worship service is also on Sunday night, which gave us a chance to attend a Church Service the first day of our marriage without risking seeing anyone we knew in Hattiesburg or worrying about getting up early in the morning.  I was very glad to stand alongside them, even though the actual people who wrote the songs I know of were away on tour.  We praise God for the many great things that are happening there, and for the faithfulness they displayed that Sunday.

The next day we drove to Tennessee, and spent some time in Cade's Cove.  We somehow managed to avoid Dave's parents, who were in the area themselves!  Here are a few pictures of our time there Monday evening:

On Tuesday we drove through the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping at a few overlooks and taking the curves quickly, as I love to do in my heavy, low-riding car.  Some of the views were spectacular, and we eventually ended up in Virginia for the night.

Wednesday we drove to Harrisburg, PA and toured the nearby Hershey factory.  After a fun afternoon, we spent the evening doing laundry and re-packing for the cruise, to which we would drive the next day.

And then, after a night of rest, we drove to the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, NJ, where Royal Carribbean's "Exporer of the Seas" would take us all over the New England and Canada coast.  Once we got on board, we would see the Statue of Liberty, Dave for the first time.  We will leave you there, hopefully contemplating as we were what so many immagrants must have thought the first time they saw it.
