Happy 1st birthday!

It was this time last year that we were bringing Sarah home from the hospital, wondering if we could raise a baby without the nurses and doctors at our side. Could the Lord have really given us this round little bundle of sweet sighs and stretches and softness? This year with Sarah has been the most blessed yet. We love our baby girl!

Weight: 22lbs 3.5oz (70th percentile)
Height: 29.75in (75th percentile)
Head: 18.25in (90th percentile- big brains need lots of room)
Diaper: size 4
Clothes: 18 month, though she can still wear lots of her 12 month options

Likes: sharing, having her fingers chewed on, playing with other babies, finding her bellybutton (and mom's), pulling up on everything, eating (everything- we aren't picky yet!), wind in the face

Dislikes: NURSERY (oh my!), teething, waiting for her sippy cup

Schedule: Pretty much the same old game. We love our routine!

7:30 Sippy cup and food
9:00 Nap
11:30 Sippy cup and food
1:00 Nap
3:30 Sippy cup and food
7:00 Nurse and off to bed

Liquids: On Friday we finished off the last of our stored milk (which we had been diluting more and more with cow's milk) and have Sarah drinking solely cow's milk from a sippy cup for the first 3 of her 4 meals. Every time we start to drop a nursing feeding I get really nervous about stopping something that is going so well, but by the end of the week am so thankful for Sarah's independence. It is time. We are just incredible thankful to have been able to nurse this long. She is doing incredible well with the transition and finds sippy cups to be delicious and fascinating.

Teething: Those top two teeth are just on the brink of busting through. Her gums are so swollen and white, and Sarah has been an extra hungry little girl. Hopefully they will go ahead and break through and stop their teasing.

Mobility: Sarah loves to pull up on anything: coffee tables, fireplaces, shorts, leg hair, chairs, etc. It is all fair game. She also is quite proficient at maneuvering around once she is up, but hasn't as of yet let go to stand on her own. I still think it will be a while before she walks on her own, but she is always surprising us, so we'll see.

Party: We had quite the fun cookout in celebration of Sarah's birthday. It is worthy of it's own post, so be looking for pictures!

At today's appointment: Her new hesitation around strangers made this one a little tougher than others, though she still charmed doctors, nurses, and even other waiting room patients. She received three vaccines (Hep A, Hib, and PCV13) and and two awesome band-aids.

Next appointment: Her 15 month well visit is scheduled for October 18th. Hopefully we won't see them before that!

This will be the last of our monthly updates, but look for a progress report after her 15 month well visit. Thanks for watching her grow with us!

  1. Thanks for sharing your angel with us ~ I've certainly enjoyed watching her grow during this past year. You & Dave are wonderful parents and look forward to seeing what Sarah's 2nd year brings to the Cook family.
